The Swiss midfielder is keen on taking on a more important role at the club

Who is involved?

Granit Xhaka was rumoured to be on Inter Milan’s summer target list, but he has now dismissed all rumours of a possible move away from North London. Instead, Xhaka wants to be the captain of the team.

Laurent Koscielny is the current captain of Arsenal. However, the 33-year-old might leave the club this summer as Unai Emery attempts to boost the club’s defence.

What has happened?

Speaking in an interview, the midfielder is extremely certain that his future is with the Gunners. When asked if he could be leaving Arsenal,

“Not that I know.”

“I have another four years’ contract, I only signed last year. I’m happy there, my family too. That’s the most important thing.”

The 26-year-old also admitted his wish of becoming the captain one day in his Arsenal career. He said,

“It would certainly be the dot on the “i”.”

Switzerland lost 6-5 on penalties to England in the UEFA Nations League, finishing fourth in the competition.

What might happen?

Arsenal have been linked to a couple of players including Yannick Carrasco and Samuel Umtiti. The latter is confident that he will be staying at Barcelona despite interest from the Gunners.

Aaron Ramsey was once touted to be the club’s captain. However, the Welshman has joined Juventus on a free transfer. This increases the chance of Xhaka taking up the armband in the near future.
