Manchester United Transfer News: United officially announce Daniel James as their new signing

Daniel James has been welcomed as a new United player

Who is involved?

At long last, Manchester United have unveiled Daniel James as the club’s first signing of the summer. The former Swansea City player signed his contract today. His contract is five-years long and includes an option to extend for a year.

The Red Devils are believed to have paid € 17 million for the Welsh international.

What has happened?

The 21-year-old has impressed for the Swans this season in the Championship. In 33 games, he assisted 9 times and scored on 4 occasions.

Signing his contract today, James explained that ” every kid grows up wanting to play for Manchester United”. For him, it was like a dream come true.

Wayne Rooney had previously advised his former club to invest in youth players who have the potential to grow. Buying veteran and renowned players can help the club temporarily, but it is not the long term solution.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the midst of rebuilding his squad after United finished 6th in the Premier League table. They will join Arsenal and Wolves to play in the Europa League next season.

On his Twitter account, the 21-year-old expressed his delight in joining United this summer.

What might happen?

United will also be keen to offload a couple of their senior players who have not impressed. Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez have been linked to moves away from Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Paul Pogba could also leave the club with Juventus and Real Madrid reportedly keen to sign him.

James is unlikely to be the only signing for the Red Devils. The board is said to have prepared an improved bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and should they fail to sign the Crystal Palace defender, they would shift their focus to Max Aarons of Norwich City.
