Who is involved?

The 21-year-old French is said to be close to signing for Arsenal with personal terms already agreed. However, Lorient FC have rejected Arsenal’s second bid and are demanding 20 million euros for him.

What has happened?

Unai Emery has yet to welcome any players this summer to the squad who finished 5th in the Premier League table and lost to Chelsea in the Europa League final. They would be travelling to the United States of America for the International Champions Cup in July. Before that, Emery would be looking to reinforce his squad and perhaps get rid of some others.

Arsenal are not the only club eager to get the player. Previously, Lyon had submitted a bid worth 10 million euros for the forward, but saw it rejected.

Reports in France claim that the deal could be finalised soon as long as the Gunners’ bid matches Lorient’s valuation.

Claude-Maurice currently plays in Ligue 2 and has made 35 appearances this season. He scored 14 goals and laid 4 assists for his team-mates.

Having welcomed Matteo Guendouzi last summer, Emery probably feels that it is worth it to invest in young players and integrate them into the senior team at Arsenal.

What might happen?

The North London club is expected to place a bid over the next few days which could see the French join Arsenal as soon as next week.
